Litany

Description

Listening to Arvo Part's newest composition, Litany, is like walking alone in a vast, empty space. A deserted monastery, perhaps. History and stillness hang thick as incense in the air. Light from arched windows patterns the floor. Columns soar heavenward. These images are all in the imagination. But such is the power of Part's religious music that it inevitably sends listeners on an inward journey back in time. (David Stabler, The Oregonian, 1994)
