Trumpet in Bb 1, Trumpet in Bb 2, Horn in F, Trombone, Tuba — AIM HIGH (2024) was written for the USAF Heritage of America Band MACH 1 Commission, upon winning their Composers Competition. It is a single movement with several attacca sections, highlighting the performers’ virtuosity and heroism as active-duty members of our nation’s armed forces. There are hymns, both dark and light, alongside dances and canons, all of which reach for the heights these men and women secure on behalf of us all. Bright, bold, and irresistibly energetic, AIM HIGH is a thrilling addition to the brass quintet repertoire. Composed for the USAF Heritage of America Band MACH 1 Commission, Pann’s quintet unfolds in a single, continuous movement of vividly contrasting sections. Hymns (both shadowy and radiant) intertwine with lively dances and intricate canons, all crafted to showcase the performers’ virtuosity and spirit.
