Description
Violin — Land Breeze represents the wind blowing from the land to the sea at night. This phenomenon occurs as the land cools faster than the ocean, creating a high-pressure area that pushes air out toward the water. I expressed this natural movement through sound.Gray Sky imagines what kind of wind might suit a gray sky. Perhaps there is no wind at all, or maybe it comes and goes in gentle, irregular waves.Breath of Air captures the feeling of a pleasant breeze – a soft, comfortable wind that seems to carry with it the temperature or scent of faraway places. It’s the kind of wind we feel in our everyday lives.High Wind depicts strong, powerful gusts of wind,as the title suggests. I used the number of notes, bowing techniques, and intensity to portray the energy and force of this kind of wind. With its four movement titles: Land Breeze, Gray Sky, Breath of Air, and High Wind, Nishimura’s unaccompanied violin suite IN THE WIND offers impressionistic beauty along with drama and flash. The composer’s program notes offer authentic insights into how each title image inspired the musical depictions. Hear this beautiful work at www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaKAh9PIUjo
