Piano — Nocturne No. 9 was commissioned by Louis Meisel for Nadejda Vlaeva, who premiered it at the Husum International Music Festival in Husum, Germany on August 9, 2006. The piece begins simply and slowly, going on to alternate between quick, animated 32nd notes and a more languid alternate theme, never rising above a pianissimo.
