One of Marin Marais' best-known works, "The Bells of St. Genevieve" was originally written for viol, violin, and harpsichord with basso continuo. Its melodic lines are shared by viol and violin, while a repeating D-F-E makes up the bass line. Thorne takes care when arranging this classic for clarinet ensemble, extending some phrases to accommodate the new setting.
