Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Alto Flute, Bass Flute — These three madrigals written by opera composer Monteverdi come from his 4th book of 5-voice madrigals in 1603. Their expressiveness results in large part from the same flexibility of melodic line and mixed modal/tonal harmonies that also characterize Monteverdi's first excursions into opera.
