Description

Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Fiddle Somethin’ was written to be pure fun for the young string orchestra. It is an original fiddle-style tune, but certainly reminiscent of popular folks songs from the fiddling tradition. There are opportunities for some improvisation in the fiddle style if you so choose. An example solo is provided in the first violin beginning at m. 5. This open section can be repeated as many times as desired. Another option would be to add some percussion instruments to the ensemble. I can hear fitting nicely a tambourine and a snare drum played with brushes during the piece if you want to add to the authentic fiddle sound. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program.—LARRY CLARKLakeland, FL 2008 With this piece, have fun and teach your students to play in a truly American style. All of the spirit and flavor of the mountain music style are present in this delightful original from composer Larry Clark. It even includes an open section where you can highlight your best players, by way of improvised solos or the provided written solo.
