Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Best of Brahms is a medley of three of Brahms’ most famous melodies: Hungarian Dance No. 5, Lullaby, Op. 49, No. 4, and the main theme from the Finale of Symphony No. 1.Students should be familiarized with these melodies before instruction begins.Beginning at m. 29, the Lullaby should be performed as a cello solo on the first repeat. When it is repeated, the cello section plays the melody with an obbligato part played by upper strings.I hope your students will enjoy being introduced to the music of Brahms.
