Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — Potomac Spring is an evocation of the cherry blossoms which bloom so beautifully along the banks of the Potomac River in Washington, D. C. Bowing should always have a light touch, especially on staccato notes.A few optional notes are given to keep the music entirely in first position. The higher notes are preferable for ensembles capable of playing them. Other optional notes are given to avoid difficult or rapid notes. In such places observe the instruction to “Play either, not both.”Thank you for choosing this composition. I hope you and your students find it enjoyable andinstructive.—Joseph CompelloGlen Arm, Maryland, 2006 Joe Compello’s expertise as a writer for young players has never been better demonstrated than it is in this charming waltz. Beautiful melodic writing and memorable, singing counter-melodies fill this tribute to the famous river that flows past our nation’s capital, Washington, DC.
