Description

Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass — This piece was written as an introduction to D minor and the low second finger in the upper strings. Hopefully your students will enjoy the dark melody and feel the frenzy of the driving eighth notes, especially in the lower strings. The orchestra passes through the eye of the storm in measures 17-39, but tension builds again in measure 40 as the original melody returns for a stormy finish! Experience a whirlwind of sound and fury in D minor! This accessible and exciting work for developing string orchestra journeys through the stormy minor key, reinforcing low 2 finger patterns and easy slurs, while avoiding low 1 B-flat finger patterns. Accents and staccato articulations add to the chaos of the tempestuous theme that passes from section to section, with plenty of unison rhythms for a strong sound. Brace yourself for the twister!
