This piece is based on an arrangement I wrote for the choir at my childhood church. I wanted to explore some drone-like accompaniment figures beneath this beautiful melody. As the arrangement develops, the writing becomes more contrapuntal. This is a valuable teaching tool for part independence, while still playing material for your holiday concert.The key change at m. 34 opens up the excitement and movement of the piece. The lines are very flowing and rich. Each part is important throughout this section. Be sure to bring out the passages that reflect the words: "Hush, hush...." These passages should be separated, yet with full value half notes.The subtle use of pizzicato at the end brings the piece to a charming conclusion.
