Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — This piece was originally commissioned by the Braxton Craven School Band in Trinity, North Carolina. It was later rewritten for string orchestra. The Braxton Craven School is on the original site of what was once called Trinity College, which later becameDuke University. Consequently, the impetus for the piece was to honor the heritage of this place as the site of education for many years; hence, the title reference to the goal of all education, which is the pursuit of knowledge. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program. Larry Clark likes to base some of his pieces for student musicians on strong values, like the pursuit of knowledge! This piece's strong, uplifting theme evokes this quest for learning.
