Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass, Piano — This medley includes two immediately recognizable American folk songs.xa0Shenandoah was sung by pioneers on their way to begin a new life in the West. The theme, which is first stated in the violins, is accompanied by a counter-melody that hints at things to come.xa0Simple Gifts comes from America's Appalachian region. The shakers, who settled in this area, sang this as a song of thanks in their religious services. The last chorus is performed at a slightly slower tempo, bringing the medley to a stately close. Two beautiful American Folk songs that make a fine medley are given a playable and sophisticated arrangement by a first-rate arranger. Each section gets to play both familiar tunes and the counter melodies and subtle harmonies give this selection a nicely musical sheen. Duration: 4'
