A Winter Journey

Description

Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Piano — Escape into a wintery mist of swirling snow. The mystical melodies woven into this arrangement are borrowed from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1. The first movement, known as Dreams of a Winter Journey, features a brisk G minor theme. Here, that melodic idea is transposed to easier E minor and explored at a gentle, slower tempo. Every section of the orchestra encounters lyrical lines as they join the journey through frozen hills and moonlit drifts. Opening and closing with the melancholy motif in cellos, the minor theme ends as softly as it began, vanishing like the cold silver moon.
