It is the time of day when the Sun has dipped below the horizon and darkness is only a few moments away. I have always found dusk to be an interesting time of day. It is a period that tends to evoke a little bit of melancholy because the day and its activities are ending, but it also evokes feelings of excitement and mystery as to what the night will bring. I hope that you and your students enjoy performing At Dusk!Conductors notesThe ride cymbal part should be played with drum sticks that have plastic tips. The ride cymbal roll at mm. 69-70 should be played as a single stroke roll. The hi-hat should be played with drum sticks that have plastic tips and it should be played with the tips of the sticks on top of the cymbal. The wind chime part in the final measure should be played ascending and allowed to ring for a few seconds. At Dusk is an exciting and dramatic piece that will showcase your band’s ability to play with balance, blend, and rhythmic precision.
