Description
Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, Piano — In every great story there is always an antagonist. It is a character that is central to the success of the story. Without an opposing force there is little plot development that can be done. I wanted to take that concept and do something with it musically. I thought it would be interesting in sound and I also thought it might be a nice way to do some cross-curricular work with your English department to discuss the structure of a good story. The piece as you can imagine is aggressive and may be at times antagonizing. It is intended to be so! The piece was designed with the youngest of players in mind and works on simple repeated eighth note patterns as the foundation for the melodic material. As with most of my pieces I strive to provide interesting parts for all instruments and give everyone at some point in the piece some melodic material to play. I think that students will find it fun to play in this aggressive style. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program. In every great story there is always an antagonist, the character of opposing force who is central to the success of the story. Larry Clark has applied this concept to music in a new string orchestra piece, fascinating in sound and an excellent cross-curricular tie with English classes, musically illustrating the structure of a good story. This piece is aggressive and at times, purposely antagonizing. Designed with the youngest of players in mind, it works on simple repeated eighth note patterns as the foundation for the melodic material. As is typical in a Larry Clark piece, interesting parts are provided for all instruments, and everyone gets to play the melody. Dur.: 2:56
