Description

Voice 1, Voice 2, Piano — Performance Notes:Time….such a predicable thing that we never seem to have enough of, right? How many times do you still have things on your “to do” list when the day is done? Or you’re enjoying an activity and it ends much too quickly due to time? Is time a thief that steals from us? This piece describes the predicable beginnings and endings of time in relation to our lives.Using the traditional melody from “The Sally Gardens,” the text of this piece describes the thief that steals our daylight hours leaving us with evening/night. Much of the melody is unison and should be performed very legato. Uniform vowels will help achieve a warm tone quality as well as beautiful blend as you share this piece with your audience. Always be mindful of correct syllabic stress. It’s the little things that make the difference between mediocre and perfection.Throughout the piece, pay close attention to the contour of the melody. While dynamics are clearly marked, allow the rise and fall of the melodic line to help determine natural dynamic changes as well. You will need good breath support for each phrase. Be sure to maintain breath support throughout so the pitch doesn’t go flat.Enjoy!Glenda E. Franklin This gentle, flowing two-part treble piece uses the traditional melody from the folk song The Sally Gardens, carried in unison much of the time. Glenda Franklin’s original text describes the thief that steals our daylight hours, leaving us with the calm of evening and night. Written to be sung with a very legato approach, the piece feels comfortable for developing voices and beautifully captures the peaceful close of the day.
