Description
Soprano, Alto, Piano — The text for this piece was adapted from the poem Little Things, written by Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney (1823–1908). It is easy to see how small things come together in nature to make something grand, like drops of water combining to create a vast ocean, or grains of sand making up a desert, or even snowflakes merging into a snowball. It is not always so obvious with our words and actions, and we don’t immediately realize the ripple effect that occurs when we perform small acts of kindness or share words of love with those around us. These seemingly insignificant actions can have such a positive impact and make the world a better place! Think back to a time when someone paid you a memorable compliment just when you needed it most. In the same way, negative words or acts can have lasting consequences, so we should always choose our words and actions carefully. My favorite illustration of this concept can be found in the culmination of a choir composed of many individual voices, creating a sum that is greater than the parts. I truly hope your choir finds joy in singing Little Things. We don’t always realize the ripple effect that occurs when we perform small acts of kindness or share words of love with those around us. These seemingly insignificant actions can have such a positive impact and make the world a better place. Thus is the premise for this delightful and thought-provoking SA choral, sure to spark much wonderful conversation and, hopefully, lead to actions of the same nature!
