Description
Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, Piano — We love and need our friends and this song is a celebration of our friendships. As your choir practices and presents this piece, it is my hope that they feel all the love from those relationships and that they allow themselves to enjoy the celebration. Here are a few suggestions to help as you rehearse:Don’t push the sound out. Let it flow effortlessly. The message is simple and easy, and the voices should sound that way too. Singers should stay in their head voices as much as possible.Sing long phrases rather than single notes in a row, and pronounce the consonants lightly and on the front of the tongue. Otherwise, the repeated eighth note pattern can become choppy. The melody should always be prominent on the choruses. As it moves from part to part, singers should adjust their dynamics accordingly.Because of the syncopation in measures 6, 7, 8 (and all others with that pattern in each verse), there is a tendency to emphasize the first and third notes of the measure while “dropping” the second note. Make sure that all three notes get the same emphasis. Otherwise, that second syllable will be lost to the listeners. Most of all—have fun! This piece should put a smile on everyone’s face! Friendships are important, and we should celebrate the friends we need and love. Karen Crane's catchy melody, toe-tapping rhythms and accessible harmonies create a mood in which both singer and audience can feel and celebrate all the love from those ever-important friendships.
