Description

Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, Piano — PLEASE ADD THIS AT THE BOTTOM OF P8Antonín Dvořák was a great Czech composer. His creative output included symphonies, operas, symphonic poems, overtures, various works for instrumental solo with orchestra, chamber works, oratorios and other choral works, and songs. Especially successful at incorporating the folk tunes of his homeland in his nationalistic compositions, his first duets based on Moravian folk songs were published in Prague by Emanuel Stary in 1876. In 1880, Simrock published Dvořák’s arrangements with both Czech and German words in three sets, known as Op. 20 (four for soprano and tenor), Op. 32 thirteen forxa0soprano and alto) and Op. 38 (four for soprano and alto). This edition of Op. 32, No. 3 is based on the Stary edition of 1876 and the 1880 edition of Simrock. A metronome indication and English words provided by the editor have been added to the score. This exuberant duet should be performed very energetically, always emphasizing the two main pulsations of each measure and following the dynamic changes to highlight the text changes. Antonín Dvořák was especially successful at incorporating the folk tunes of his homeland. Dyby Byla, one of his first duets based on a Moravian folk song, is brisk, short, and delightfully fun to sing! Don't let the language frighten you, as there is a pronunciation recording available. This Dvořák classic will be a great addition to any concert/festival program.
