Description

Symphony No. 59 in A major, Hob. I:59 ("Feuersinfonie" / "Fire") was composed in the late 1760s (c. 1768) by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) during his early years at the Esterhzy court, a period marked by experimentation with his Sturm und Drang style. The nickname "Feuersinfonie" ("Fire Symphony") is not original to Haydn but is thought to derive from the work's later association with incidental music for a theatrical production - possibly the play Die Feuersbrunst ("The Conflagration"). Instrumentation: 0.2.0.1: 2.0.0.0: Hpchd: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set). Reprint of the critical edition by H.C. Robbins Landon.
