Description

douard Lalo (1823-1892) composed his SYMPHONY IN G MINOR in 1885-1886, a late work that reflects his mastery of orchestral color and dramatic intensity. Written after the success of his SYMPHONIE ESPAGNOLE, the piece demonstrates Lalo's gift for combining French elegance with a Germanic sense of symphonic structure. The symphony premiered in Paris on February 7, 1887, under the direction of Charles Lamoureux, and was praised for its energy, thematic richness, and expressive depth. Despite this, it never achieved the lasting popularity of his concertante works and is still relatively rare in the concert hall. Today, the SYMPHONY IN G MINOR is valued as an ambitious and finely crafted contribution to 19th-century French symphonic repertoire, admired by connoisseurs for its robust character.
