Declaration, Song, and Dance

Description

Percussion professor and Rochester Philharmonic member Kristen Shiner McGuire has written this three-movement solo for four timpani, with each movement highlighting specific skills. The first movement make use of three distinct types of alternating stress: tenuto, accent, and marcato. In the second movement, pedaling techniques take prime importance. And the third movement maintains the pedaling from movement two but adds a variety of implements to strike the drums with widely varying beating points. It is a wonderful recital and contest work for the advancing timpanist.
